Friends of Westlake Porter Public Library invites you to their Annual Ice Cream Social, to be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 from 6-8 PM at the library, 27333 Center Ridge Road.

Mitchell’s Ice Cream Sundaes will be sold for $1 and plenty of entertainment will be on hand!

Come see The Big Daddies Band, Balloon Dave, and take your turn on a hole of our mini golf.  Try your luck at the Dave & Buster’s table and the Bruegger’s Bagel table.

Check out the Silent Auction which closes that day at 7:45 PM.  Items include a Nancy Larsen Dance Studio Basket, a Wilton Baking Basket donated by Baskets by Jen, and 4 Walt Disney World Park Hopper passes.  Bidding is now available in the library lobby.

SHOP ALL DAY at the Portables Gift Shop at the library…they will be having a Sidewalk Sale.  The gift shop is run by Friends and can be visited online at www.portablesgifts.com.  All proceeds go to the library and the shop is staffed by volunteers.

SHOP ALL DAY at the Book Nook – there will be THOUSANDS of HALF PRICED books, movies, and more both inside and outside of the library for sale.  The Book Nook is a used book room run by Friends that sells the library discard books, and sells books that the public donates.  This is a great time to stock up on summer reading and to get a deal on used library books and media.

Of course, Mitchell’s Ice Cream will be serving sundaes from a tent in the parking lot from 6-8.  Popular flavors include Vanilla, Chocolate, Cookie Dough, and, special to the library, Porter Peppermint Patty!  Friends of WPPL subsidizes the cost of the sundaes so the public pays only $1.

Make sure the kids take a turn at the Cakewalk –a 50-cent round might win you one of our 60+ cookie and cake choices!

Friends of WPPL looks forward to your attendance at this fun, annual community event!  Parking is available at the library and across the street at the post office.  Happy Summer!

Westlake Superintendent Dan Keenan named Superintendent of the Year

We’re pleased to be able to share the news that Westlake City Schools Superintendent Dan Keenan has been named Superintendent of the Year by the Buckeye Association of School Administrators! In a press release dated October 22, 2013, Westlake City Schools announced that Keenan received the honor having been nominated by school board President Thomas Mays and Vice President Carol Winter. Keenan’s response is as follows: “Thank you to BASA and our Board of Education. This is a credit to what’s taking place here in Westlake due to our mission and due to the intense focus of many people who are so involved in seeing our students are at the center of what we do. I am proud and fortunate to work in a place that understands our schools exist for our students and embraces a continuous improvement mindset.”

Having been named Superintendent of the Year in Ohio, Keenan will now compete in December for the American Association of School Administrators’ title of National Superintendent of the Year. Please join us in extending a hearty congratulations to Superintendent Keenan!
